Bipin Indurkhya
Bipin Indurkhya did his BE (Electronics) from REC, Bhopal (MP), ME (Electronics) from Philips International Institute of Technological Studies, Eindhoven (The Netherlands), and Ph.D. (Computer Science) from University of Massachusetts, Amherst (USA). He spent about twelve years teaching at various universities in the US, most of which was at Boston University. After that he was at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan for over eight years. In the last two years of this period, he was in the Mechanical Engineering Department, where he started a robotics lab and developed undergraduate and graduate courses in robotics, which were very popular. He has been with IIIT-Hyderabad since 2004.
His current research activities include studying and modeling creativity underlying metaphors and designing creativity-support systems, usability studies involving perceptual and cognitive aspects, and developing IT and robotics tools for assisting cognition and communication for autistic and dyslexic children. He has also lectured about robotics to the school children in Japan and in India, and has conducted many hands-on robotics workshops for children and college students in both countries.
Kaladhar Bapu
Kaladhar bapu is a User Experience Designer with microsoft . one of the very firsts to bring usability to india, He also established usability engineering group at cordys with one of the biggest teams prior to microsoft. He was the manager of usability engineering group at cordys r&d, India.
He holds a Master's degree in Visual Communication from the Industrial Design Center, Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Bombay and Bachelor's degree in Architecture from JNTU, Hyderabad.
Bapu is most interested in designing easy and pleasurable to use products and services, that are ever increasing in complexity with emerging technologies.He has been mentoring students interested in pursuing their career in design. he is committed to making a positive difference in how we educate our next generation through strategic, technological and organizational innovations.
He is the founder of Usability Matters.org (umo), a non-profit organization to make people more sensitive in usability and design. His articles entitled 'Usability Primer' was presented at NASSCOM, 'Dealing with cross-cultural issues’ for a book ‘Offshoring Information Technology’ which is published at Cambridge University press.
He is the primary contact for India to celebrate World Usability Day India at Hyderabad and Chennia. He has been successful in organizing world usability day (wud 2005, wud 2006, wud 2007,wud2008, wud2009 and wud2010) in India every year to growing popularity amongst the designer and design sensitive community
Shilpa Bhat
Shilpa Bhat works as an Interaction Designer with Nokia. She is responsible for designing services for users in Emerging Markets. Her role at Nokia takes her to rural parts of India, China to understand user’s needs through Usability Testing and utilize these insights to design services for them. Shilpa’s recent project has been Nokia Life tools - an SMS-based service that provides hyper-localized information to its subscribers in three sectors: agriculture, education, and entertainment.
Shilpa is an industrial designer from National Institute of Design, with a Masters Degree in Psychology. Prior to Nokia, Shilpa worked as a Senior User Researcher with OnMobile Global Limited, where she gathered valuable experience in the value added services industry on the mobile phones.
She has done extensive work in the area of designing and developing educational aids for children, and her designs are being produced and marketed by Frank Educational Aids Private Limited. She is very passionate about Indian herbs and spices and has converted her kitchen as a laboratory to experiment with various potions.
Herre van Oostendorp
Herre van Oostendorp (PhD) is leader of the Cognition and Communication group of the Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. His background is cognitive psychology. His research interests are on the area of Web Usability and Computational Cognitive Modeling of Web Navigation and on the area of Cognition-based Learning Principles in Serious Games. Ashish A. Tiwari
Ashish A. Tiwari is a Usability Architect currently working at Cordys. He is leads the company in generating ideas and designs for next-generation, social enterprise-class software.
He is an engineering graduate with Masters in Design from IDC, IIT Bombay. He started his design journey with event-management, production design at the Prithvi theater, Industrial Design for Printers and Peripherals, and the design of Electrical Cars. Besides these, he actively mentors Web start-ups. His core interest lies in interaction and experience design for web and enterprise applications.
He loves programming, and is an expert consultant for brand development, business requirement analysis, persona development, and user-experience.
With experience spanning 10 years, he is a sought-after reference for advise and mentoring on web-based interaction paradigms and the factors that go on to influence them, such as technologies, trends, business needs, and users.
He is the president of UMO Hyderabad Chapter, a non-profit organization to make people more sensitive in usability and design.
Currently, he is spearheading initiatives around the cloud computing and Rich Internet Applications paradigms.
Sameer Bhagwat
Sameer Bhagwat works with rediff.com as Creative Director - User Experience Design. Apart from designing products and product experiences he is an active evangelist for Usability, Information Architecture and Design Processes and Common Sense approach to design. Presently he is working and experimenting with Minimalist Interface Design Approaches for the web and Gestural Interfaces for web.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering from PREC, Pune University and Master's Degree in Visual Communication from the Industrial Design Center, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.
Sameer actively pursues Photography and Motorcycling through India to broaden his design vision.
Kailash Dattkaya
Kailash Dattkaya is a Sr. User Experience Manager, currently working with Oracle India as Sr. User Experience Manager. He is Masters in Design from IDC, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay,India and holds a bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
As a user experience designer in Oracle, he is providing the UX support for enterprise applications. His primary focus is on interaction design and design management. Since 2006, he has been providing the UX support to Life Sciences applications and recently, he has moved into enterprise applications domain.
He has 10 years experience in the field of user experience design and management for software
products from diverse domain. Prior to working at Oracle, he has worked with software development and services companies, designing the software applications for the domains such as e-learning, online collaboration, architecture and mortgage.
Shalini Sankarshana
Shalini Sankarshana brings over 10 years of experience in brokerage operations and is specialized in fixed income securities domain as well as off-shoring unique client-facing functions such as Business Analysis and Release Management. Currently she works with the India unit of the US Strategy & Business Development, and is leading the Operational Risk strategy from India. Her experience over the years, where she has straddled several roles starting as a developer, moving on to client facing business analysis and finally to strategy and business development has provided her with a thorough grounding on creativity, innovation and development of execution strategy.
Krishna Kankipati
Krishna Kankipati (M. Tech, IIT Mumbai) is part of the leadership team of Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Private Limited with extensive experience in managing the offshore project teams to assure high quality of software being delivered to leading Broker-Dealers of US market. He heads the Quality Assurance department covering all the products offered by Broadridge to US Fixed Income Securities Processing domain. He is been one of the core members of QA-Center of Excellence initiative, designed and implemented a standard, reusable and robust Test Automation Frame work across many business units of Broadridge globally.
Mitul Bhat
Mitul Bhat works as an Interaction Designer at Nokia. He is responsible for designing applications and conducting usability studies for Nokia’s Meego platform - the open source revolution in the telecom industry today. His role at Nokia gives him the opportunity to interact with users through usability studies; and bring key insights into his design projects.
A graduate in Visual Communications from National Institute of Design, Mitul has rich industry experience having worked with Dubai Media City, D E Shaw, Human Factors International. His latent passions lie in filmmaking and teaching. Mitul’s interests include Film studies and writing fiction.
