Announcing UMO Blog
The blog is our next step in giving more visibility to the public at large about the UMO-community activities, and of-course the updates on the various activities and announcements. The blog is setup on Pivot and Arun helped us with the php and the programming stuff to enable it on our server. Idea of going for an independent blog, rather than one at blogger or such service is to give the users as clear view of content as possible without any co-marketing, like in yahoogroups pages. The UMO yahoogroup will continue to operate.
For starters , Shama and Anand have already shifted the old Boycott-Bad-Design entries into the blog. This enables people to comment on the individual entries, an oft repeated request, and it helps the community get more perspectives on each entry (not to mention having to deal with emails and follow-ups separately from where the entries are). An additional feature is that each entry can be rated, and as we know ratings are even better than comments. So have a round of the Bad Designs Category and let us (actually everybody) know about what you feel about the examples posted.
The entries we're receiving for the competitions are going to be uploaded under suitable categories for ratings and comments. The current (old) entries we see on blog are the groundwork towards the final competition entries, so use them to the fullest and help us get prepared for displaying the competition entries.
To keep up with the free spirit, the comments are all free and no restriction is placed on email id or web-site urls, but it'll be nice if you at least leave your real-name, and email. This will help us to get in touch with you if there is any need. The emails addresses won't be displayed on the site, and the entries without return address may be moderated with higher priority.
For those interested, the site content is available through XML feeds, in both RSS and ATOM formats.
The competitions pages and minutes are also available on the blog, and we hope to post the latest developments especially those in the next meeting. So keep posted and spread the word about UMO-Blog and the two Competitions.
As with all new-freshly set-up systems, the UMO blog is not without glitches and bugs. You may use comments on this post to air your rants and raves and bring forth anything you strongly feel important to the well being of the UMO.

Talking about design , I wonder how nobody thought of "locators" for the many essential devices that are used today. E.g., the ubiquitous remote control. Having to live (at least for now) with many remotes, I am sure some of you have faced this problem where you were not able to locate the remote at least for an hour. Believe me, It is a harrowing experience! Thank you.
