The 5-point crossing that is shown in the picture is a very bad way of designing the roads. The reason is that when one of the lanes is free to go the vehicles in the other lanes cannot move. So at a time only one lane is open. This reduces the traffic flow and the also hinders the average traffic speed.

Bad Designs

Remedy:In these cases flyovers or underground tunnels are the best way to keep the traffic from slowing down due to unnecessary crossing.
